I guess "unstable" means CVS means "source-code only" means "no binaries availble" ? > right now: > samba 2.2.4-1 SMB and CIFS client and server > for UNIX > samba-ssl 2.2.4-1 SMB and CIFS client and server > for UNIX, with SSL support > sambasentinel 0.1-1 Gtk+ frontend to smbstatus > > But noet that OS X also has built in SMB support, albeit no SMB browser > right now, so if you just want to connect to SMB machines that's enough. > No, I wanted to have a fully-fledged Samba-Server, which in conjunction with CUPS is able to offer *all* drivers (CUPS-PPDs plus Adobe PS driver) to the Win Clients for one-click-installation upon first contact. The Win clients then send PostScript (maybe using the Gimp-Print PPD) and the CUPS printserver acts as a network PostScript RIP doing all the conversion work for the inkjet printers... Really cool, plus also very useful in some environments (where Win NT print servers tend to show up too many Blue Screens...) > As to a SMB browser: I haven't tried it myself yet, but look at SMB > Browse http://shukwit.com/main.php (found via the almighty > http://www.versiontracker.com/) > > >> But if I understand the Fink idea correctly, its mission is to make >> package installation/compilataion as easy and comfortable as possible to >> users, while maintaining a correct package database and dependency >> tracking... > > > That's it, yeah. > > >> So a self-compilation would only be a temporary emegency >> measure for me. > > > >> >> Is there a list of "wanted, but not yet Fink-ized" packages somewhere ? >> Is there a "wishlist" I could fill up with my preferences ? ;-) > > > Yes: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?atid=371315&group_id=17203 > > But first check if the package already exists: > http://fink.sourceforge.net/pdb/index.php > I spend yesterday a few hours in searching round in circles, starting from that list. It is weird, a newbie will never find anything from there.... There are only links to the section lists and those link back to the complete list, and links to the original SW website. But no link to the Fink-packages "darwin-powerpc.deb". Later I found them by accident, and bookmarked them.
