David,

please allow me to respond more in general than to specific comments. I think I have to rephrase and sum up everything a bit, otherwise the discussion will degenerate into details and nobody will understand anymore what we were initially talking about.

Step for step:

Motivation: I don't like giving personal details because I know what can be done with it. I detest collecting of my personal data in general because the data can and will be used in ways that I did not envision when I initially provided the data. That's just the way it is. To prevent mis-use (instead of just use) I prefer to not give the data at all.

Action: With the motivation described above, I simply had to question the fundamental need and your motiviation for this survey. Trigger response, so to speak :-)

Reaction: You gave me the answers. Your reasoning was too far-fetched for my non-marketing view (maybe I'm just not enough of a visionary), so I still don't see the need for most questions. If I were to follow my train of thought to the end, the logical consequence would be that I question the need for your position as marketing guy. But that is on my personal level, which as you said is of no interest here.

Resolution: On the public level I am completely satisfied. We have discussed it and now I see the general consensus is that we need the survey. Of course, I accept this without further ado.

I hope I could clear up some things that may have become tangled already in the previous thread. On my side I regard the discussion as closed and I won't reply in public to further comments unless they open up new issues.

Thanks
Patrick
