Well, that is a bug indeed, please file it in the bug tracker. Since Fink is able to handle different locations, the installer should prompt for it.

Well, its a feature request, not a bug. And even if the installer could handle different locations, because it installs binaries it will require a symlink of /sw to your install location. The path is hard coded into many things (like dynamic libraries) at compile time.
