Okay, I have libpng3 archived (libpng is currently installed) and so from Terminal.app I tried:No, because you can't compile against system-xfree86--it's just a placeholder to an existing XFree86 installation. Can you provide an example?
[dhcp-24:~] mbovee% fink update libpng3
sudo /sw/bin/fink update libpng3
Information about 2125 packages read in 3 seconds.
The following package will be installed or updated:
libpng3
dpkg -i /sw/fink/debs/libpng3_1.2.5-2_darwin-powerpc.deb
Selecting previously deselected package libpng3.
dpkg: considering removing libpng in favour of libpng3 ...
dpkg: yes, will remove libpng in favour of libpng3.
(Reading database ...
dpkg: serious warning: files list file for package `system-xfree86' missing, assuming package has no files currently installed.
40421 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking libpng3 (from .../libpng3_1.2.5-2_darwin-powerpc.deb) ...
So, It looks like I have lost a file called 'files list'. Somehow I need to either replace it with a corrected Fink package file or remove any memory of system-xfree from fink's brain...?
Thanks much,
