selfupdate-rsync isn't working for me. I get a host of errors like:
rsync: recv_generator: mkdir "10.3/unstable/main/finkinfo/utils": No such file or directory (2)
stat 10.3/unstable/main/finkinfo/utils : No such file or directory
Wild guess: Some rogue kext, like the one from StuffitPro that was producing similar errors some time ago, see the Fink News page. Look at the list of kexts with kextstat, like
kextstat | grep -v com.apple
Here's the command and output:
[localhost:~] [**myuserid**]% kextstat | grep -v com.apple
Index Refs Address Size Wired Name (Version) <Linked Against>
... then the shell prompt again. So I tried a couple different options to attempt to get the information you suggested I seek:
[localhost:~] [**myuserid**]% ps | grep kextstat | grep -v com.apple 11161 std S+ 0:00.00 grep kextstat [localhost:~] [**myuserid**]% ps | grep -v com.apple PID TT STAT TIME COMMAND 4647 std S 0:00.14 -tcsh 5433 p2 S 0:00.11 -tcsh 6410 p2 S+ 0:00.59 perl -w /sw/bin/fink selfupdate-rsync [localhost:~] [**myuserid**]% ps | grep kextstat 11662 std R+ 0:00.00 grep kextstat
... and those are the outputs.
I checked the news, including the pre-February stuff, and couldn't find anything. I also searched (cmd-F) the page for any reference to "kext" and came up empty.
This may not be the problem, since changing perms on /sw/fink/10.3/ has rsync working. But if I'm missing something, please let me know, or refer me to the right place/topic to read up on it and figure it out on my own.
... so I tried CVS.
When I try cvs, I don't encounter any errors. Unfortunately, I also don't get any 10.3 packages. Just so you know what I mean:
[localhost:~] [**myuserid**]% cd /sw/fink/10.3/
[localhost:/sw/fink/10.3] [**myuserid**]% ls
total 8

If you "tried CVS", there should be a directory named CVS here. What were the errors when you ran selfupdate-cvs?
Yes, there was an error, and I foolishly forgot to mention it:

Failed: Can't move "/sw/fink" out of the way
... those symbolic links go back quite a ways, as you would expect. I only excerpted the last few.
I tried Dr. Hansen's and Mr. O'Gorman's suggestion, and fink is merrily updating (pardon the anthropomorphism) as I type this reply. Still, if you see anything of which I ought to be aware, feel free to comment.
And thanks very much for your help.
Kind regards, James
