Im Having issues install automake1.6
here is the errors

This looks like a bug in the automake1.x packages. You can go from any of the automake1.x packages to any other, except from 1.4 to 1.6, 1.7, or 1.8 (maintainer CCed).
On the other hand, I don't know what you tried, but you should be able to simply "fink remove automake1.4" and then install automake1.6.
