What is the source of the analysis? What crime statistics were used (both by VPC and TSRA)? Is there an online source for the info?
The original data was provided by the DPS. The law required them to document all suspensions (due to arrests) and revocations (due to convictions or other reasons), until the law was recently amended to document only convictions.
The first release of the data came out of the blue. The first indication that it was available was when the VPC released its first "study" on the issue.
I immediately contacted the DPS and asked for the source data provided to the VPC and was told that they were still scrubbing it for public release. I'll leave it to the reader to ponder how the VPC got the data to prepare their "study", if it wasn't yet available for public release.
I would like to provide the raw data, but I had stored it on a separate website and linked to it, (because it put me over my quota on my "primary" website). When I left that ISP, I forgot to download a copy of the files. Add in a hard drive crash about the same time, and the end result is that I no longer have the raw files.
(Why am I experiencing deja-vu?)
However, I can provide a link to the most current data concerning convictions of CHL holders:
http://www.ptb.org/txchl/
There's a link at the bottom to the source. But, I'll reiterate that it is _not_ the basis for the "fact" being disputed.
