Everything would be easier if we were using versions numbers in a more
sane way.

We do use two slots (say, 2.5) to actually represent major versions.

If we were using only one:
1.0.0 = 1.0.0
1.5.0 = 2.0.0
2.0.0 = 3.0.0
2.1.0 = 4.0.0
2.5.0 = 5.0.0
2.5.1 = 5.1.0
2.5.2 = 5.2.0
3.0.0 = 6.0.0

We would use the third digit for emergency fixes. Then we would be
discussing the 5.2.1 (5.2 = our current 2.5.2) and (.1 = emergency fix).

But since we don't, I do not know if it's possible (or desired) to use
another group (for 2.5.2.1 more the build number).
