Clell,

I replaced both the front and rear springs in my '68 400 with new ones from CI several years ago. The fronts were part number CS6312, which is still the number CI uses for that application. They went in perfectly and raised the car about 3/4".

One more thing to verify, if you haven't already, is that you also waited to tighten the lower control-arm bushing bolts until after the full weight of the car was on the tires (that goes for the sub-frame bushing bolts and sway bar links, too).

Stu, S.Sterchi, Ronnie & Steve,

I appreciate all of your replies. The first time around, I had tightened
the control arm bolts, and later I loosened them - actually dropped the one
out of the frame when I put in the second spring, so I am sure that isn't
the problem now. I (over) compensated for any uninstalled equipment by
placing the two guys on the fenders -- to no avail. It looks like it is a
common problem - Rats.
I'm beginning to expect that what I order today will not be the same that
were installed by the factory.
Still thinking
