Sounds like the dipstick tube might be too long (but I can't imagine why)... If 
that's the case, couldn't you carefully cut off some of the excess length of 
the dipstick tube? I would take a .22 caliber rifle cleaning rod and put an 
oiled patch down the tube to catch any metal shavings, then cut the dipstick 
tube off with a small tubing cutter and then extract the rod and patch.
I'm sure many on this list could measure how far the dipstick tube sticks up 
out of the block. I will be glad to measure what I have on my 455 and my 350 
engines.
