First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... It sounds like your cylinders can still be brought up to exact specs for either piston you choose. I learned from having my old Harley rebuilt that cast and forged pistons will usually have different clearance requirements. My 400 block is already +.030 but has some cylinder wall damage that will need to be dealt with. If I use the same block again, a 455 kit sounds like a definite choice. First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... This started out with a few scratch/grooves in the cylinder wall. The machinist was not sure how much he would have to take off to get rid of the deepest one. The idea was to take the minimal amount and see if 4.150 pistons would fit in there. If not, I would buy pistons for the next size up. He got the majority of the scratches out and the bores measured 4.1505 to 4.1507. He said this should work fine and would actually reduce marring with a little looser fit. There's still a little groove of a scratch in one of the bores so taking it to 4.151 or 4.155 (Ross) should get rid of all the scratches/grooves. Probably a good thing. Lessons learned along the way, fun, fun, fun!
