Jeffrey,
The TV cable on most overdrive transmissions is used to control transmission
line pressure, shift point, shift feel (firmness), part or full throttle
downshifts.
One end attaches to the throttle lever on your carburetor, and the other
is connected to the throttle valve lever and bracket assembly inside the
valve body. Through the cable the transmission senses the throttle position
and determines the shift points and firmness. As a result, proper
adjustment
is critical to good transmission performance and long life.
Here are a couple of useful sites describing the adjustment process.

Every transmission has an output shaft at the tail end. This shaft is
splined and is
designed to mate to a driveshaft yoke with the same diameter and number of
splines. In the case of the ST300, TH350, TH700R4, and TH200-4R, all use
a 27 spline output shaft, and will all share the same driveshaft yoke.
The TH400
has a 32 spline output shaft and requires a unique yoke (shared with the
Muncie M22 and Borg Warner Super T10).
