First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... I've had thermostats that didn't quite close all the way, even a VERY small opening lets a lot of water thru. Since they are cheap I'd put a new thermostat in it.

Kevin, What I am saying is that even with a 180 thermostat installed, the engine isn't getting above 160 around town. The thermostat is remaining closed because the engine doesn't reach the thermostat's set point. In such a situation, increasing the thermostat set point won't increase the engine temp. I need to find the best way to reduce the cooling system's efficiency until it reaches the thermostat's rating, which is something I never imagined I'd have to do given all the effort I've put into making the cooling system as efficient as possible. It seems that restricting the bypass is the best thing to do. I don't want to block it completely because it would then take too long for the heat to reach the thermostat. Does anyone know which direction the coolant flows through the bypass?
