The balancer should slide on easily so it can be pulled home by the mounting 
bolt.  It's not meant to be a force fit like on Chebies.  You could find 5/8-16 
threaded rod with a matching nut to pull the balancer in, but I think you could 
have a problem with the precison of your crank.  Check out the discussion on

The manual says install using a suitable instrument. Are they referring to a
hammer? I wouldn't want to bang on it considering that would mean banging on
the thrust bearing. I have it on but its not on deep enough to get any threads
started to suck it down into place. I tried a couple of stores for a longer bolt
but 5/8"-16 bolt is hard to come by. Any ideas?
