I have this same problem, and yes, pulling the lamp socket from the bracket
causes the lights to go out. However, this doesn't "fix" the problem. What
is the trick to fix these lights so they can stay in the brackets where they
belong yet not stay on all the time?

Thanks, Scott

I agree. I had an intermittent problem where my courtesy lamps would
flash. It was the socket grounding against the bracket.

I had a similar problem on my car when I replaced one of the lamp
sockets under the dash. I didn't realize that it had to be an
insulated socket, because if the socket is grounded in the hole it
will keep the lights on. Try pulling the sockets out of their holes
and see if it cures your problem.
