I've still got the original sockets and brackets.  The only things that have
been changed over the years are the bulbs.  Are you suggesting that I need
to replace the sockets with an aftermarket product?   Scott

Replace the sockets with the correct type.
They have to be isolated, i.e. NO ground thru the mount.  I used a 
plastic socket with a separate ground wire.
