Honda came to Ohio in 1977.

Marysville-based Honda of America Manufacturing employs about 16000 workers
and the state of Ohio invested $26.9 million in direct assistance to Honda
to as an initial investment.

Ford total Ohio workforce is about 8500. Did the state give them money? I
don't' know. I know cities and counties in Ohio have given them tax breaks.

But regardless, you are correct, over the 100+ years Ford has obviously made
more of an impact to Ohio than Honda. Why the Big 3 failed to compete with
foreign car companies I'll never know, and yes, the problem is complex. I
just can't believe Pontiac is done.

To be consistent with the list rules...I do have a legitimate Firebird
related question:

COULD YOU EVER GET A DASH GRAB BAR IN A NON-DELUXE INTERIOR CAR? (I've seen
"original" cars on eBay that had the bar and not deluxe, but who knows)

thanks L,

Dino

Rusty oil pan - how about on a Nissan. Sold them and they had more
recalls that went unreported than reported. Including one that
would burn up Z cars.
Oh and the some 5,000+ ford workers don't do much for Ohio and
haven't for the many years they have been there? How much did the
state give back to Honda for building a plant there? I know what
we paid in Texas for a Toyota plant.

I too wish they had kept manufacturing jobs here and at the same
time I wish they would have put the foreign automakers on the same
footing as the domestics. Do you know what it costs to buy an
American made car in Japan? Or Korea? Or Sweden? After you get
done with the tariffs and fees designed specifically to hinder
their sale?

The problem is far more complex. They were running from corporate
taxes, the unions, the EPA, and endless regulations. And like the
other world automakers if you want to sell your products in other
place you need give them a piece of the manufacturing pie.
