Are you just replacing the seal? /*Before*/ removing the nut you use a
torque wrench to verify the existing preload on the bearings. This
little bit of information will tell you how tight the nut needs to be
when reinstalled. The trick is not to over tighten and crush the
adjustment sleeve further. It's a lock nut so you should replace it with
a new one. I think a lot of techs just snug it up till the slack is gone.
I have the 1968 service manual on disc if you want it.
