First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... Also important to note... Since I occasionally travel to Portland, when I bought my comfortweave and side madrid grain vinyl from SMS, I personally visited them and met with the owner, who is a super guy. I brought my new door panels along which are a brighter red and showed them to him. He ended up pulling out the actual sample GM book that had the original swatches of vinyl material samples with pictures that the GM dealers were given. The red in those material samples was darker. He cautioned me to say that vinyl will actually change color as it ages, particularly red as it often gets darker. The bottom line is that it's really difficult to know what color is really correct when it comes to a certain shade of a color. As Brett said, about the best you can do is to try for a dye lot that is the same. Man, that's where a black interior is a lot easier to deal with. OJ In a message dated 1/14/2010 10:27:16 A.M. First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... As most have mentioned, PUI is the one to go with IF you are going to get a full set of reproduction seat covers. It may not be as noticable for the Deluxe but for my 67, the seat covers all have the heat seams and have the quilted appearance. In the cheaper reproduction seat covers on the market the look of the center section is FLAT. There is no raised or padded look to it between the heat seams like the originals had. They just look odd and cheap once you compaire them. But everything I've seen from PUI is of much better quality and is MUCH closer to a true reproduction of the original in every way. So I just wanted to elaborate on the differences between PUI and the other brands on the market as this point had not been brought up. Also, depending on who you order them through, and it wouldn't be an issue for a black interior, but, I was able to have them actually request that all the vinyl for my Blue interior Seat covers, door panels, side panels etc all come from the same dye lots to get the best color and texture match as we could. To add to that, there are about 25 different Blue vinyl samples to choose from in their actual sample book (again, depending on who you order from, they may have an actual vinyl sample book you can look at, touch and compaire like I did) That may have been the slight discrepnacy in Joes case too? there may be another red that is slightly closer to the original... Brett! Subject: seat cover opinions From: "rick watz" <[email protected]> Hi All... Thx so far for the help on the other parts I mentioned. Now for the interior. I am wanting to get new seat covers for the 69 400 with the deluxe interior. i have heard that the original comfort weave material is no longer available. I have looked at the major suppliers and it seems that they are all similar in appearence. I have to think that one company makes them and sells them to the parts companies? Anyways, good, bad, or ugly, all comments would be appreciated on where you bought them, ease of installation, quality, and overall satisfaction or disappointment. thx again Rick 69 400 Medicine Hat _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail: Powerful Free email with security by Microsoft. http://clk.atdmt.com/GBL/go/196390710/direct/01/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Submissions to Firebird-L: <[email protected]> Unsubscribe from Firebird-L: <[email protected]> Help: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/firebird/Firebird-L.html> Classifieds: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/ubb/> Owner Pictures: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/show/> ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Submissions to Firebird-L: <[email protected]> Unsubscribe from Firebird-L: <[email protected]> Help: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/firebird/Firebird-L.html> Classifieds: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/ubb/> Owner Pictures: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/show/>
