Hmmm... doesn't look like my previous posting made it. Probably hit
Discard rather than Send.

Anyway, I rebuilt the xpi file adding traceConsole.html and tried it.
Got farther but not all the way. This time it complained about a
missing traceLogFrame.html file. So I rebuilt again after adding this
one (both from the SVN 1.7 version). It appears to have worked! I
now get a popup with the title "Tracing: extensions.firebug". I
clicked on CACHE and ERRORS in the Options tab and then reloaded my
web page. The log filled up with over 500 entries.

Now for the "bad" part. I looked at my JavaScript file and now the
source is correct! Previously it was wrong every time. So I closed
the tracing window and reloaded my page again. The JavaScript was
corrupted just like before. Open the trace window again, reload my
page and it's correct. I'm not making this stuff up - really.

I should also point out that, while basic operation of the trace seems
to be working, there may be some incompatibilities between the two 1.7
files and the rest of the 1.8 build. I tried to save the log to a
file and it doesn't do anything after I click Save to File. Same with
Load from File - both just close the dropdown.

I haven't fully tested out Firebug operation yet as I had moved on to
another issue I needed to resolve in my embedded software and I want
to wrap that up before I go back to the original problem which needed
Firebug. That should be later today and I'll post my results then.
