Yes!!! Thank you! At least F12 now brings Firebug up again... the button in the toolbar is still missing.
BTW, if it helps: my config before was Firebug 1.10.5, Firefox 16.0.2 (I was on 15 something before this Firebug update and upgraded thinking maybe the new Firefox version would fix this, so it's happening on Firefox 15 as well) and Windows 7 Enterprise.
