I learned OOP by reading Yard's "Object-Oriented for Flash 8". I also own the version updated for AS3, "Object-Oriented ActionScript 3.0". Todd's books really are a great place to get started, I would read the ActionScript Design Patterns book after reading Todd's book. The as3dp book is excellent as well, but I would start with Yard's book if you're fairly new to Actionscript.
