Two other suggestions,

First check the DPC checker to see if you can use Normal mode.  I noticed
that on a fast machine that the Normal will run smoother than the Safe Mode
1   in the FireWire driver.   Just the opposite from XP..

Second you may need to move to the Legacy OHCI Windows FireWire driver
instead of the one you are using..   Follow this procedure..
