Heh, whoops.  There's digression at work for you.

I wasn't arguing against the implementation any particular
optimization.  The disagreement was about Norman's contention that
running FlightGear in windows mode was much slower than in game mode.
It isn't; the page flip optimization is mild.  But it's there and
working fine, if you want it.

Basically, this was entirely irrelevant.  Regardless of who is right,
FlightGear implements both strategies and wins anyway. :)
