FWIW, the following has fixed my FGFS/ALSA sound problems:
echo "fgfs 0 0 direct" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss
There is also
echo "fgfs 0 0 disable" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0c/oss
but it is not needed on my setup.
