Actually, it is the buildings that cause a MAJOR throughput hit. Does anyone know how to turn them off (disabling random objects does not disable buildings)?

If I use [EMAIL PROTECTED] as a benchmark, the new machine is about 3x faster than the old one. This is a G5 PowerMac with a Radeon 9600 Pro (64 MB RAM). My previous benchmark was to fly around Seattle, but I haven't transferred any of the terrain data to the new machine. FlightGear has always been a bad performer, IMHO, on the Mac and I don't have any of Darrell's performance improvement patches applied. I am curious to know what other people get for frame rates (both with and without buildigs).

There are a lot of variables that can affect frame rate. The amount of video
memory available is one of them. Within flightgear the type of aircraft and
it's detail make some difference. You'll also see a drop (as I do) when the
downtown area is within the view frustrum.

If you want to compare notes with others you might want to specify your
hardware and specific aircraft and view locations and directions. At startup
with the aircraft sitting on the threshold you will notice changes in frame
rate by changing the view direction to the right and left.

Judging by the numbers I take it you are not running a GFX5800 on a 3Ghz P4.
If you are, something is _really_ wrong :-)
