See my previous post about the nvidia driver - the 2 heads can be
configured as a single logical screen - the only performance hit you'll
get is down to the larger screen size. I've never used an ATI card, so I
don't know if they have a similar feature. Anyone wanting to try it just
needs to add these lines to the Device section of the X config (tweak the
numbers accordingly):
Option "TwinView" "True"
Option "TwinViewOrientation" "LeftOf"
Option "SecondMonitorHorizSync" "30-50"
Option "SecondMonitorVertRefresh" "50-80"
Option "MetaModes" "1600x1200,1024x768"
