Thank you, Pigeon, for your prompt reply!

And, does the machine have two sound devices? It sounds funny, but
say an onboard sound, and a proper soundcard? At the moment FG will
simply pick the first sound card (i.e. /dev/dsp) for output. And because
this is a live cd, it simply detects and activates as many hardware as
it possible can. I got "funny" behavior once when I have my usb
webcam+mic plugged in, and it comes up as the first audio device, and so
FG wants to use that as sound, and failed.
You are right - I have two sound devices - onboard sound (normally
activated) and a separate sound-card (not activated).
Under Windows I have no drivers installed for the sep. soundcard and
Suse10 might have asked me during the installation what sound-device to
use (to be honest, I can't remember).
Now I just switched the speaker-cable to the sound-card and all worked
fine - resumee: two sound-devices can be dangerous under Linux!
Problem solved as most users only have ONE sound-device, it is a
personal problem I have/had. Thank you for your help.
I have to say I put the gtk jscalibrator on the cd only because
it's there. Have you tried calibrating it using the command line jscal?
The fact that the joystick is being detected, coming up, and FG is
using it, is a good sign though. :)
Ok, this is more difficult for me.
I started jscal and it asked for the device.
As I am an absolute Linux newbee I just typed in the following (don't
laugh!):
$ jscal </dev/js0> -c
NOTHING happend, just came to the input sign "$"
I thought of not being logged in as an admin and I tried another program
("X-terminal as admin") but it did not work.
Then I tried
$ jscal <js0> -c
but the program claimed that the path to the device could not be found.
OK, I give up here as I have absolute no deeper Linux knowledge. What is
the right way to use jscal?
I guess I will add to my TODO list in the future to have the ability
to save settings/etc on persistant media.
That would be great, especially if FGRun could save its parameters for
further use ... otherwise you have to check a lot of boxes everytime you
want to use the live-CD.
