I have verified the information from the link Vivian provided. "Out of 
the box" on Vista 64, Build 6001 SP1, AC3D *did* work. The DEP setting 
was as shown in this image ("Turn on DEP for essential Windows 
programs..."):

I verified that changing the setting to "Turn on DEP for all 
programs..." caused AC3D to fail as in the following image:

I then verified that AC3D would again operate correctly after adding it 
as an exception.
