To equate this with the "nanny state" is complete nonsense and blowing things 
completely out of proportion.  In addition, your preference for client-side 
filtration doesn't make much sense; if you really want to swear and be sworn at 
whilst flying nothing is stopping you from running your own un-filtered server 
for like-minded and (IMHO) ill-adjusted people...

In my experience, the kind of people who swear a lot (or are otherwise abusive) 
in these circumstances are also the kind of people who contribute little or 
nothing positive to the project, are disruptive and waste other people's 
valuable time which could be more profitably spent.  I'm all for filtering them 
out...
