Compare livery loading time, between a .png (or .rgb), and .dds livery.
You can also notice decreased texture blurring at extreme angles (probably due 
to better mipmap generation from .dds, or better quality pregenerated mipmaps 
embeded in the .dds).
The most noticeable quality improvement is on normalmaps, so if you're not 
using any you won't notice it..
take a look here for a simple comparison of the same normalmp texture (once 
loaded as .png and then as .dds):
