It would certainly be good for you to find what caused the non-Rembrandt 
slow-down, since the only thing that should possibly have happened in that 
time is shader changes - nothing in the C++ scene that should make such a 
large difference.

You made me think (no funny jokes please).

So  I removed  "-enable-rembrandt"from system.fgfsrc and got 60fps again.

Therefore my post should have read 40 fps (no shadows), and less than 20 
(with shadows) as that is what I did, stupidly thinking that the shadows 
button would turn Rembrandt off.

Sorry for the misleading post, but I think that my comment about increasing 
power requirements still holds good.

On the subject of shadows, I am seeing very clear black shadows when it is 
raining.  I don´t recall ever seeing these in real life, even on rainbow 
days. Making raindrop shadows must eat up a lot of CPU/GPU wherever it is 
done.
