I'm running v0.9.8 compiled from CVS checkout. OSis

yet, a crackle. I used to think it was a problemwith
hard drive or memory access, until I realized lastthan
night that it occures every 20 seconds (+/- less
1 second). Also, the Cessna 172 pitches up when Ihave
back pressure on the joystick, or downward if thereis
forward pressure. Plane is virtually impossible toknots.

I get the crackle sound on other aircraft (737,
Cherokee Warrior II), without the pitchingup/down).
mixtureA particularly annoying problem since the C172 is affected most.
Any ideas? I thought maybe the C172 needs fuel
adjustments??? The regularity of this is uncanny!
I *think* this is the Astro component of FlightGear updating the positions of objects in the sky. The time discontinuity is probably responsible for the pitch changes. (Although it shouldn't have that effect.) What speed CPU do you have?
Jon
CPU is Pentium 4, 1.6 GHz on my Dell Inspiron 8200. Laptop is about 2 years old. 2 GB RAM.
One of our tech guys at work said CPU speed is likely
irrelevent to the graphics performance, and instead
suggests that my 32MB NVIDIA GeForce2 video card
(default setup out of the box) can't keep up. But why
the regular 20-second intervals to this particular
anomaly? Can anyone else weigh in on this particular
video card? Are there options to set to test whether
or not I'm pushing to hard on the graphics (disable
random objects, etc)?
I would be tempted to look at what else might be running on your machine? Do you have a web browser open? An email client? Once in a while I've scratched my head over poor/odd flightgear performance, only to discover I had a web page open with piles of useless animated adds ... such as weather underground or RC universe... Do you have some applet on your desktop that is going out and fetching weather or stock quotes every 20 seconds? Some distributions/OS's can load up your desktop with all sorts of awful crap.
Regards,
Curt.
