The instructions on the cvs downloads page on the FG and SG websites are
pretty straightforward - if you follow them you shouldn't go too far wrong.

Certainly - graphics-wise we now have some very nice 3d clouds and shadows for
both aircraft and buildings. The carrier is pretty much fully operational -
i.e. one can take off and land on it, as well as have a degree of control
over its course (order it to head into the wind, for example). The other,
really excellent update that I can think of is to the "mulitplayer" system.

Credit for this lies mainly with Oliver Schroeder
(http://www.o-schroeder.de/fg_server). His latest patch has not made it into
CVS yet, and can be found here for now
http://www.adeptopensource.co.uk/personal/misc/mp-os2-3.patch

That patch is just OS' os2-2 patch trivially modifed to compile against the
most current CVS which changed while he was away - I'm sure he'll have an
updated version on his own website very shortly.

Instructions for joining the FlightGear multiplayer server can be found on the
FlightGear wiki and on Oliver's website... a great online map of currently
connected clients is available at
http://pigeond.net/flightgear/fg_server_map.html

The difference that having real traffic makes to the whole FG experience is
amazing!

Like Curt said, you can keep both, as I do - I just build and install the
latest CVS under my /home directory, by specifiying appropriate --prefix when
running ./configure.

Cheers,

AJ
