I've seen new 32Mb GeForce2 MX cards advertised for less than $90 USD
recently. You could probably get one for substantially less if you
hunted around. I know that's not an option for everyone, but for
those that are struggling with an older, slower, smaller, less than
well supported video card, you will be amazed at what a difference a
GeForce card (or equivalent) will make. Note, I'm not specifically
trying to sell GeForce cards, it's just that for Linux, these appear
to be currently the best supported, best running 3d cards available.

I've recently run FlightGear with a 12Mb Voodoo2 card, but I wouldn't
recommend anything less than that. I doubt an 8 Mb card would work
(or at least not work well.) I'd recommend a 16Mb TNT2 or Voodoo3 as
a minimum card, although there are limitations/artifacts with the
16bit Voodoo3 that you don't have to endure if you get a 32bit TNT[2]
or GeForce card.

Curt.
