Really? That's interesting, as several others have got back to me to say that
freeglut CVS fixed the problem (as the freeglut mailing list archives also
would led me to think). Are you 100% sure you don't have any remnants of the
older version on your computer that are being picked up instead? Have you
recompiled everything that depends on freeglut to be 100% sure? Please note
that these are helpful suggestions, not an argument :-)

If the problem really has come back again, I think we should be considering
switching to using SDL by default.

It is a real pain in the neck and I was fully expecting a plague of complaints
when 0.9.9 was released. There have actually been remarkably few since
then...

But I have to say, when I was starting out with Linux and free software in
general (quite a few years ago now), I quickly developed a habit that remains
to this day. If any compile failed, I'd check what the web had to say about
it. As your knowledge grows, of course, you find that you can sort most of
the problems you come across yourself, but if not, google nearly always
provides a solution.

As ever (and as with most projects) the documentation lags behind but as you
discovered, SDL is a very real option. There are minor differences related
to things like keyboard handling, but nothing major - it should all work.
I've been using SDL myself for a while now as it seems to work slightly nicer
with kwin than freeglut did.

If your distro provides freeglut-2.4 then you are best just using SDL unless
you have a pressing reason not to.

No, I do appreciate that... sorry if I sounded a bit grumpy in the last post,
I'm just getting a little bit tired of answering the same question over and
over again! Then again, this is the users list (and I'm not a fgfs
developer) so I suppose I should expect less.

I'm sure I suggested we should have a big "FREEGLUT-2.4 IS BROKEN, USE SDL"
warning in the readme supplied with the 0.9.9 source - obviously that isn't
there, but IIRC there was supposed to be a warning added to the documentation
somewhere about the problem...

Cheers,

AJ
