I don't know if anyone else is going to respond to this, but I'll try to
help, since I just went through that. I can't quarantee that my answer is
100% correct, but I know that frustration. I hop ethis helps.

I saved my instruments as "RLE compression". Is your background big enough?
I think it has to be at least 256x256, even if you only display a subset of
that for your instrument. Are you telling it to display 0.0 to 1.0 in your
XML file?
