Powers of 2 is an underlying opengl limitation.  Texture coordinates are
done it texture space (0.0 to 1.0)  So if you have a 256x256 pixel texture
then your texture coordinate for somepoint (x,y) in pixel space is something
like (x/256, y/256) which I guess is the same as ( 1/(256/x), 1/(256/y) )

Scale this up to 512x512 and see if that helps.  (Also note that you don't
need to have square textures.  You could do 16x1024, 512x256, etc., just as
long as each side is a power of 2.)
