No offence taken I've tried it on my host system as well just to make sure the 
code does work and it works fine.

I don't think I'll be using GL for anything. The app I'm trying to write will 
be fairly simple with some buttons, radio groups, sliders and jpeg thumbnails 
which mostly works but with no text anywhere.
