Yes - I seldom use it on an embedded target either, more I was just
trying it 'cos it was there...
That said, if the target supports it and it's fast enough, you can do
some groovy stuff that way.

Should be fine, I think...

Regarding thumbnails, I'd suggest trying PNG too. In my experience it
does a better job than jpeg on small image files, or on image files with
limited colour ranges.

That said, for *really* small images I'd consider XPM - it's not so
compact but has the advantage that it can be inlined in the C/C++ source
code, so very easy to embed into the app.
