i also feel that some of the titles i come up with when i first begin a
painting are embarrassingly personal or downright silly and so i choose
untitled which in effect it is a cover up of sorts.

i might add that especially the modernists liked to call their work
untitled
because they wanted the painting to be it's own reality rather than
refer to something in the world
exterior to the painting itself. the work was the reality.

ann i never noticed the whininess before but now that you mention
it............
i probably should have edited the question before posting it to the
list.
