I think that being as people have been doing painting and sculpture since the very beginning of the species and before, and they're still doing these things in increasing numbers, it would be unwise to say "obsolete". In any given buncha makers of anything there's going to be a fair number of bad makers. Net art and more techy forms suffer from this too. AK
