Never tried it, but something like this could work: Create a new ETL Tool in ArcGIS, browse to the FMW File created in your c:\documents and settings\....., replace it with the FME - File you want to open and open it in ArcGIS again? This could allow you to open files created with FME in the interop, if all the readers / writers / transformers used in the FMW are supported by the interop...

This is true, but I wouldn't guarantee that the interop fmw files aren't a bit different in their structure and content. For example, the v9.1 readers and writers were not the same as you would get in Workbench (I think they might have just written to a staging geodatabase). But copying items is fine, because the individual objects should be the same in both products.
