Jeremias already responded to you and my comments go in the same
direction. Firstly, its great that you want to look at this aspect. I
did investigate support for UAX#14 Unicode compliant line breaking
over
FWIW: a few months ago, I was (very privately) toying with the idea
of implementing the Unicode Bidi algorithm as described in the Rec
5.8 (XSL 1.1) --mainly the FO tree part: insertion of fo:bidi-
override / breaking up fo:inlines if the directionality of the
characters changes.
I was thinking to use an approach analogous to the current refinement
white-space handling: one BidiProcessor stored in the FOEventHandler.
This should be quite feasible, since the XSL-FO specific algorithm is
specified entirely in terms of (text descendants of) FOs. In that
case, the changes to the layoutengine would remain minimal.
Unfortunately, I didn't get to pursue this further. Of course,
fo:bidi-override first needs to be implemented to be able to test
such a BidiProcessor...
Cheers,
