Hi, why not just have a toolbar or status-bar button that toggles auto-copy on and off, similar to the Firefox Auto Copy add-on, http://autocopy.mozdev.org/
that add-on also has useful features like a context menu to restore the clipboard if you accidentally auto-copied. I use auto copy in my terminal emulator and often find myself highlighting something in a PSpad tab that I'm using as a scratch pad and then forgetting to hit ctrl+C and end up pasting the wrong thing. ouch. It may be useful for auto-copy to be a per-tab setting so it can be on in one tab and off in another.
