I appreciate the way Mercantile manages the .np domains. I think it is not
good to blame Mercantile upon not getting a specific domain name.

It is clearly stated in the terms and conditions : "Domains are provided on
first come first serve basis".
It is good that they are not taking any fee and they are managing it very
well.

The same is the case for commercial top level domains. .COM .NET. .ORG. The
domain registrar does the same(first come first serve basis).

Even the man in pizza.com got what he deserved. He bought pizza.com in 1994,
when the dot com business had just started. Now he is selling the domain
in 2008. He managed to maintain the site for all these years.

Even the top level domains suffer from these cases, we should not blame
Mercantile who is managing the domain for free. We should be thankful that
mercantile registers .np for free whenever we like to register. Mercantile
does all these hastle free things for free, right from the begining of
.np in nepal. They managed to introduce .np in Nepal. This is a good
thing and we should learn to appreciate that.

Domain names are stolen, bid, sold, and many things happen. All the problems
above occured for the top level domains. We can say that those registrars
are highly paid and more commercial than Mercantile, yet they suffered these
problems. Mercantile is just a free .np registrar. How could MOS solve all
the problems inherited with "Domain".

There are many VDCs and many schools, many Not for profit organizations.
Domains are for all of them. Many are benefitting from this service,
including individuals. Keeping a charge might hamper all of them.
Since web services are expanding exponentially, We are getting exactly
what we have expected. *In the near future, there
will be no or very less desktop applications, rather most of them
will be replaced by web applications. For instance Word,
spreadsheet, presentation documents are being replaced in many places
by easily accessible web apps like Google docs. * Research, Development,
and management of desktop apps cost more than web applications.
Desktop applications are not accessible as easily as web applications. So
lets not think of putting barriers on web appliactions, rather
try to be liberal.

+1 to Hempal dai,
"let it reach to mass, lets make the service better rather than creating
more obstacles."
