I share the same issue as Prabin's and Pravab's. But I would like to add some caution to anything that we do. We need a more focused and well-thought off working mechanism for long term sustainability of the work that we put in. As everyone knows there has been a lot of effort over the past years, where people have put in a lot of effort and lot of quality work has been done. The efforts continues as off today and will continue in the future. There are few aspects I would like to point out.
1. Publisizing FOSS efforts --- whether it be of individuals or a group. This is the activitist work. This requires effort, but efforts so far have not been as successful as we have wanted it to be. We will need to sit down and talk seriously on how to take this forward. But one thing this effort will require is proof and this proof can only be got from our efforts in documentation. 2. Sustainable Documentation --- we need to work out a strategy to be able to maintain a link with all the efforts that have been documented. Also to make sure that all events and efforts of the FOSS community are documented in the future. Prabin's headings are good. Maybe we need to follow that. Also we need to encourage everyone to help with documentation in whatever form, articles, blogs, papers, presentations, animations, videos, etc... Just to get an idea I searched for FOSS Nepal on youtube. Everything I get is atleast 2 years old. 3. Futher works --- As I feel, the efforts of FOSS community in Nepal is slacking these days. Looking at the mailing list itself, the activities are quick reduced. I know and understand that everyone has to earn their bread and butter. But that effort for the greater good has also got to be kept in momentum. There are three core areas where a lot of our effort has to be concentrated. This is all my thinking and it may not be what others are thinking. One is in the area of problem solving --- localizing, making softwares to solve Nepal's problems and creating content. In this FOSS community has to work as a core support provider. FOSS community should not develop. It should help, support and nourish individuals and groups to develop. For this FOSS community should provide trainings, resource materials repository and project support. Second area is the activist work --- preaching and propagating FOSS including documentation that Prabin and others discussed before. Third is having a prominent and permanent structure of FOSS community. Please let's keep this discussion alive, until we come to a roadmap to move ahead. -- FOSS Nepal mailing list: [email protected] http://groups.google.com/group/foss-nepal To unsubscribe, e-mail: [email protected] Mailing List Guidelines: http://wiki.fossnepal.org/index.php?title=Mailing_List_Guidelines Community website: http://www.fossnepal.org/
