i'm all for that, but part of my self-imposed mandate is to mimic the
current behaviour (i.e. avoid breaking anything), so i've refrained from
any sort of experimentation in that regard. The comment on Cancel tags was
low-hanging fruit i just happened to stumble across while porting the
crosslinking, and saw that it was also compatible with the v1 code in the
other editor window.

But i'd be all for adding a C card to all (or nearly all) control
artifacts. It's important, though, that the combination of legal cards for
any given artifact type always be unambiguous, so that the parser can
answer the question, "what type of artifact is this?" during or after
parsing (the lib code does it during, fossil(1) does it after).
