"Why should I be able to vend without competition when all of these face painting companies have to deal with competition? " (Erika)
If one produces an event, it is wise to limit the "type" of product duplicated in each category for all involved. This year, for various reasons, TEMPTU, Graftobian, Kryolan, Mehron, all decided NOT to attend. Of course, they all know their support and presence have been very much appreciated in the past, but is not a given each year. This left me scrambling to try to have all of their products represented for my attendee's sake (and to help pay the bills!). I had a smaller vendor room than usual, but still needed to "fill it". Since I do not do glitter tats, I did not realize the other 2 companies did. (sorry about that Erika, but glad you did well ;o) (Cynthia) " I would say near to $100,000 just for the hotel portion and then a ton more for marketing and promotion, paying instructors, etc (to produce a convention)... If you do the math, you'll see that attendee registrations do not cover this amount. Vendor sponsorship makes conventions possible and provides the organizers with a very meager salary for a year's worth of work. The convention organizers are not making thousands of dollars from these conventions." (Erika) Thanks so much for pointing that out Erika. If the Convention is not well attended and the sleeping room nights not used, then the Producer pays for all the hotel rental space used by the Convention. It is hundreds of thousands. The person that signed the contract is responsible for the final bill. For 8 years, that bill has been in MY name alone. So, every little bit of opportunity to generate convention revenue through attendees or vendors, must be utilized. Since I am not personally a product vendor (unlike a few other event producers), I do not have that additional revenue to add to that, as an option. (Cynthia) "What if they can't find 4 other re sellers with the willingness to risk the costs to set up as a vendor at their convention".(Erika) That is exactly why there are no "re sellers"..they can't afford it usually. But, they like to complain anyway...........Now the "general public" knows a bit more about how" it" all works. I personally appreciate all that have supported me through the years. It has been an exciting and creative journey for me.
