John,

Before your helper renamed all the FM files, did you or he/she happen to
make a backup? Seens to me that it would be easier to revert to the backup
than go through all this hunting and fixing.

Just a thought.

I don't think it is in the order they were opened.
I normally open the book file and then open all files in the book by holding
the shift key and selecting Open All Files in Book. That opens the files in
order.
I just created a new file, opened it and added it to the book file, then
updated the whole book.
The new file appeared in the Documents dropdown about 8th in the list,
nowhere near its neighbors and not in alpha order either.

I *think* the documents are listed in the order they were opened. Test it
out and see if that helps any.

I don't have any solutions to offer.

In Annoyance 3, do you mean select the document or select the paragraph?

I would love it if the list of paragraphs would be alphabetic. That's a
very request from Adobe.

Then I click on them one at a time, working my way patiently through the
list. But my patience is wearing thin, and maybe it doesn't have to...

invariably use Paragraph Tags so I have to switch it. I'd love a switch
somewhere to set it to default to Paragraph Tags.

only Paragraph Tags in the target doc that actually have X-Refs. For
example, I never have X-Refs to bulleted list items or to text with the
CellBody style, so it would be much easier if those weren't even in the
list. I guess that's a wish-list item for Adobe.

am X-reffing to (usually Heading 1 or 2), then I select the Document. The
list of document files seems essentially random. I wish I knew how they are
ordered, and better yet how to sort them in book order or at least
alphabetically.
